When we travel, we want to experience the natural beauty of the world…to see the sights. But there is buried deep within each of us, a desire to get to know the spirit of people in the places we visit. Perhaps one of the best places on all of Oahu to do this is the village of Haleiwa on the North Shore…specifically, the North Shore Marketplace, the center of North Shore community life.
Conceived in the style of a plantation-era walking community under a high canopy of monkeypod trees, the Marketplace is a fun and comfortable place to spend an afternoon.

There are little flower gardens, shaded grassy areas to relax, or you can browse among the 25 unique, locally owned and operated shops that reflect the art and culture of the North Shore. Drop by and pass the time of day with locals ranging from artists and surfers to clerks and business owners, who will be happy to tell you their own stories about the biggest waves, their greatest rides and the most beautiful sunsets. There’s even a small North Shore Surf and Cultural Museum maintained at the Marketplace by a community group to give you a feel for the history and culture of the North Shore. Or, you may run into models and camera crews from national advertisers who often use the Marketplace as a picturesque backdrop for their new shows or promotions.
