A local favorite. The plate lunch is the island staple any time of day. Just as Philadelphia has its hoagie, Hawaii’s anytime meal is available just around the corner and features two scoops rice, mac salad and a choice of one or more hot entrees: meatloaf, mahimahi, chicken katsu or teriyaki beef. It’s a very filling meal with its large portions.

Seeing too much rice on your plate? Hawaii’s Asian immigrants brought their love of rice to the islands and the starch is served with many meals. If only a baked potato will do with your steak, just ask your server. Be advised that you may have to pay extra. Many places also offer garlic mashed potatoes or fries.
