Sleeping Giant

Sleeping Giant-Nounou Mt. provides the “man in repose” profile best seen from Kuhio Highway 56 in Kapaa

Cheap Thrills: Walk on a Sleeping Giant
According to ancient Hawaiian legend, a huge giant named Puni lay down for a quick nap near the Wailua River. The villagers tried to wake him by throwing rocks at him; unfortunately, the rocks landed in Puni’s mouth and choked him to death—so the giant lies for eternity by the river. You can take an easy family hike up this fabled mountain (which really does look like a giant in repose) to a fabulous view.
