| North Shore/Hanalei-Find shadowy mountains, lush valleys and spectacular coastlines along a string of one-lane bridges. Get a sneak preview of Hanalei Valley before descending into it at the lookout. |
On Kauais untamed North Shore, a string of one-lane bridges on Highway 55 hugs the coast, connecting one beach after another at the following mile markers: Kee (end of road), Haena Beach Park (9), Tunnels (8) or Makua Beach, Kepuhi, Wainiha Beach Park (6) and Lumahai Beach (just outside Hanalei at the one-lane bridge). |
| Lumahai is one of Hawaiis most photographed beaches and where Mitzi Gaynor vowed to Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair in South Pacific. |
| Bustling Hanalei is the hub of the North Shore and the center for Na Pali ocean operators. The heart of the town is Ching Young Village and across the highway is the renovated old Hanalei School, filled with shops selling surfboards and batik clothing. |
| Dont miss a visit to Hanalei Bay; it inspired the song Puff the Magic Dragon. Follow Aku Road to Weke, turn either right or left for access to the bay. The landmark Hanalei Pier (right on Weke) appears on many postcards. |
You can get a magnificent view of the North Shore from the Hanalei Valley Lookout. The pull-out is south of Hanalei near Princeville on Highway 56. A sign explains the unique partnership between farmers and the Hanalei National Wildlife Sanctuary. A majority of the states taro, used to make poi, grows here. |
